Flavored butter, aka compound butter, is an amazing low-carb condiment and perfect for those following the ketogenic diet. It's one of the best ways to add both great flavour and healthy fats to any meal, including steak, chicken, fish, roasted vegetables and even low-carb pancakes. It takes just a few minutes to prepare and will last for several months if frozen.

The basic ingredient is butter mixed with herbs, spices, or other ingredients such as cheese, nuts or even berries. If you can't eat butter, swap it with ghee, lard, duck fat and even virgin coconut oil.

Tip: Flavored butter makes a delicious and unique gift! Simply wrap it in parchment paper, twist the ends, attach a ribbon and a gift tag.

Method

Make sure all the ingredients have reached room temperature before mixing them. In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter and your preferred spices, herbs and other ingredients. Spoon the butter on a piece of parchment paper. Wrap and roll to create a log shape. Top 12 Flavored Butter Recipes

Oh my gosh! These look amazing. I have seen many compound butter recipes but these look the absolute BEST!
2 Questions:
In the Walnut and bleu cheese, do you think it would be ok to sub either brie or fresh goat cheese?
Also, in the Salty anchovy, is it really necessary to add in the salt? Shouldn’t it be salty enough with just the anchovies?

1 - Yes, I don't see why not! Brie might be a bit harder to combine but should work.
2 - Not really, this depends on your preference and how you use it.

could there be a botulism risk in storing, esp with the garlic??

These are not meant to be kept for longer than regular butter (or frozen for longer) so I can't see how there wold be risk of botulism.

Why would you (or anyone) put salt into unsalted butter??

I prefer using "unsalted butter" and then add salt to taste. Salted butter - at least based on my own experience - is often too salty. You can of course use salted butter and skip the added salt.

Hello! I am excited to try these out! Is it possible to use lard in place of butter for these? I have a block of lard that I am not sure how to use! Thought it might be of for some of these? Or even a butter/lard mix? Thank you!

Brilliant! Does the vanilla and cinnamon butter really have a whole tablespoon of vanilla essence or do you mean a teaspoon? Just seems a lot.

Hi Vicky, I know it sounds like a lot but that's what I usually use if I don't have vanilla bean powder. To be fair I didn't try this recipe with the vanilla extract - only with the powder which is quite concentrated. You can use vanilla to taste 😊
